As Sydney continues to grow, so does the diversity of its population. The new Macarthur Memorial Park (MMP), set to open in April 2025, aims to address this diversity by creating an inclusive space that meets the needs of all cultural and religious communities in the Macarthur and Campbelltown regions.
The demographics of these regions showcase a rich mixture of different cultural backgrounds, languages, and religious affiliations. Commonly spoken languages include Arabic (3.4%), Bengali (3.0%), Hindi (2.4%), Samoan (2.2%), and Spanish (1.7%). Major religious affiliations are Catholic (26.6%), No Religion (17.9%), and Anglican (15.2%), with a growing number of residents identifying as Muslim (7.9%). Our research indicates that around 82% of people surveyed had no religious affiliation, with only 6.22% identifying as Christian.
To cater to this diversity, MMP will feature specific sections dedicated to different cultural and ethnic groups, ensuring that all community members can find a place that respects their traditions and beliefs. The park has been designed through extensive consultation with community groups, ensuring it meets the varied needs of the region’s population.
“We are committed to creating a space that truly reflects the multicultural fabric of our community,” said Lauren Hardgrove, CEO of Macarthur Memorial Park. “By working closely with local community groups, we aim to build a memorial park that is inclusive, respectful, and welcoming to all.”
Macarthur Memorial Park invites community groups to collaborate with us in shaping a space that honours the cultural and religious diversity of our region.
