Macarthur Memorial Park will be an innovative, sustainable and multi-denominational memorial and parkland destination, designed to honour life, culture and community for generations to come.

This unique memorial park will be distinctly landscaped over 113 hectares of open space, respecting the sites significant indigenous and colonial heritage. The iconic public space will be open to all and will include peaceful walking tracks, a café and an inspiring sculpture park.

 

The facilities are best in class and designed to create a place of identity and belonging for the whole community. This holistic place of remembrance and healing has been sustainably designed and purpose built for the preservation of future generations.

Peaceful sanctuary for life

This world-class memorial park has been conceived with the local community at its’ heart. With dedicated community lawns available in unique burial rooms designed to provide privacy for family and visitors. Parklands and burial space for the next century, the memorial park will provide for the diverse and growing Sydney population, providing space that is sustainable and affordable for all families and community groups.

Community sanctuary for life

The stunning architecturally designed chapel will complement the landscape with natural materials of sandstone and timber and open to views of the surrounding gardens and water features.

With contemporary function spaces designed to accommodate intimate through to larger groups, the public can experience the immense scenic beauty of the landscape.

With the overlying objective to accentuate the open nature of the natural landscape, Macarthur Memorial Park will set the standard for memorial parks by providing communities with world-class facilities, unique public space and protect and the rich layers of heritage for years to come.
Due for completion in 2025, Macarthur Memorial Park will be a true sanctuary for life.

The cemetery

  • The memorial park will be predominately a lawn cemetery with areas available for natural burial, cremated remains and monumental lawns
  • The landscape principle is one of no headstones visible from the main roads with screen planting used for the concealed burial rooms
  • There is no mausoleum, crypts or crematorium planned for this site

The parklands

  • 35 hectares of publicly accessible parkland including walkways, sculpture park and boardwalk facilities

Buildings + facilities

  • Six new buildings to accommodate cemetery and recreational uses, including a multi-denominational chapel, function room, café and workshop.

Heritage

  • Restoration of existing historic buildings for public use
  • Expanded heritage curtilage around Varroville Homestead
  • A ‘no build area’ restricted to development as a lawn cemetery to protect the visual landscape.

Parking + access

  • Vehicle and pedestrian access via St Andrews Road
  • Construction of internal roads, pathways and approximately 280 parking spaces.
