A significant new community asset is on the horizon for Sydney’s south-west, as construction progresses on the area’s newest cemetery and parkland destination. Macarthur Memorial Park is on track to be open in early 2025.

Chief Executive Officer, Lauren Hardgrove, says she is proud of the hard work and dedication of all involved in bringing the vision for this huge infrastructure project to fruition.

“We are excited to be preparing for the opening of a new memorial park in Macarthur. This marks a new chapter for much needed burial space in Sydney. The park will become essential community infrastructure, serving not only as a final resting place for reflection, but also as green space for the community to enjoy.”

The park’s design and development will evolve in response to the community’s changing needs, providing both traditional and contemporary resting places. The master plan spans the next 100 years and provides memorial space to cater for the diverse community groups in the area.

Significant progress has been achieved in the built form works managed by Paynter Dixon. This involved completing concrete structures including a reflection pool, installing coloured feature walls, and the erection of structural steel roof framing and roof sheeting for the buildings.

The installation of glazing and internal fit outs is also underway with a completion date of December 2024 for the main buildings, including a function centre, cafe, multi-denominational reflection space and administration office.

The innovative Macarthur Memorial Park will be distinctively landscaped over 113 hectares of green space, respecting the site’s significant First Nations and European heritage.

The expansive park will also be home to native gardens, historical walks, water features. scenic lookouts and boardwalks.

The memorial park is due to open in April 2025. You can view the latest construction work in the video above.
